Betty Adkisson stepped into eternity Sunday, April 19th, 2020, at the age of 90.
Betty and Dean have been a part of BC since 2012. They were a part of Seniors On The Move (SOTM) and enjoyed building relationships and serving at functions.
If there was one scripture that summed up Betty and her life, it is Mark 12.30, “AND YOU SHALL LOVE THE LORD YOUR GOD WITH ALL YOUR HEART, ALL YOUR SOUL, ALL YOUR MIND, AND ALL YOUR STRENGTH.” Loving God isn’t what Betty did — it is who she was. And everything she did came out of her love for God and her intimate relationship with Him.
Many people would probably call Betty an intercessor, but truth be known, her life became a prayer. She breathed prayer — a constant, ongoing conversation with the Father on behalf of everything and everyone around her. Her greatest passion was to pray and minister to people!!!
In her 40’s, in a small town in Kansas where she and Dean lived at the time, the Lord gave Betty an “invitation” to become friends with a woman that no one wanted to be friends with — because she was so caustic, due to hurts and wounds in her life, she seemed broken beyond repair. Ministering to this woman was not an easy assignment, and Betty found herself crying out to God that she didn’t have that kind of love to love the woman. One day as she was ministering to this woman, God came in power and released into and upon Betty what she called “a baptism of His love.” She had never experienced anything like it. She was forever changed. From that moment, a reservoir of God’s love was available for Betty. If you knew Betty, this would make perfect sense to you.
She also had not only a passion but a gift of leading people to the Lord. She led a large number of people in her own family to the Lord — which we know can be the most challenging mission field of all.
If you are fortunate enough to have gotten to know Betty, you are blessed by who she was and Whose she was.
She and Dean celebrated their 72nd wedding anniversary in August 2019. They have two sons (one deceased) and one daughter. Dean has moved to Lawton to live with their daughter and son-in-law.
